Customer Case Study

Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) identified several excursions in the hydraulic oil temperature of our clients offshore wind turbine.

Investigations found no obvious defect in the system operation or cooler, with the turbine operation remaining unaffected.

Two weeks later with increasing wind speeds the fault became an operational restriction with repeated turbine tripping.  Actions taken:

  • Hypertwin™ forecast significant production losses.
  • Attempts to curtail the turbine proved ineffective.
  • An engineering decision was made to shutdown the turbine in high wind speed conditions to protect the turbine’s useful life.

A targeted inspection found advanced fatigue of the priming pump drive coupling, reducing the oil flow through the cooler.
