Customer Case Study - HP Bypass Valve

Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) identified that our clients HP Bypass valve was ~3% open when predicted to be closed. 

Initial investigations by the clients O&M Team suggested a feedback position error, but APR shed further insight by identifying ~0.6t/h of water injection flow and ~1.7t/h of bypass steam flow.

On-line testing confirmed the valve was indeed passing and created a targeted maintenance action for the next planned outage.

Misalignment of the valve positioner mechanism was found to have caused a feedback error resulting in the valve failing to close. This was corrected during the planned outage, avoiding unplanned downtime and minimising consequential damage and loss.
